We’re sure you all caught the historical inauguration ceremony Wednesday
where Kamala Harris, the first female vice president, was sworn into office.
The audience and program included pure Black greatness. The Obamas, Amanda Gorman, Andrea Hall, Meena Harris and many more were present. A virtual parade featuring several HBCU band performances topped it all off.
Accommodating the Black excellence that was the 2021 Presidential Inauguration
was colorful outerwear reminiscent of Easter eggs. One of the most profound being the different shades of purple donned by the lady of the hour. Vice President Harris was captured in a purple overcoat and dress by designer Christopher John Rogers with a pair of black pumps by Sergio Hudson. Both designers are Black. Former First Lady Michelle Obama joined the purple haze with a plum overcoat and pants suit.
Several others wore purple Wednesday as well, but why? Were they symbolizing
that they were royalty? Wisdom? Independence?
None of the above. What Harris, Obama and the other women exuded was the unity of the Democratic and Republican parties since red and blue together make purple. It can be assumed that this could be a nod towards a new beginning for the United States of America. A statement that tells everyone that we (U.S.A.) are on our way to a newfound euphoria.
So, to all who believed the V.P.’s choice of purple clothing was her accepting a
role of superiority, we regret to inform you (not really) that she has done quite the
opposite. Therefore we give a nod to Harris and all of the others who chose to wear
purple, for being an example to all of us to put aside our differences and come together in favor of a better future.
