In the latest installment of “Won’t He Don’t It,” our very own Tyler Perry has reached billionaire status.
Yes, we are claiming him because the brother has a backstory that many people can relate to.
He grew up in poverty and experienced homelessness as an adult.
“I love when people say you come from ‘humble beginnings,’ ” he told Forbes. “[It] means you were poor as hell.”
With a net worth of $1 billion, Perry is now the seventh Black American billionaire. He joins the ranks of tech investor and philanthropist Robert F. Smith, NBA legend Michael Jordan, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, tech founder David Stewart, along with hip-hop dynasties Jay-Z and Kanye West, according to Black Enterprise.
From working odd jobs to finance his first stage play to building one of the largest production facilities in the country, Perry demonstrates that with vision, determination and faith, all things are possible.
We salute this writer, actor, producer, director, and philanthropist for such a great accomplishment. He has given so many Black actors, producers, directors and artists the chance to shine when others wouldn’t take a chance. Whether you’re a fan of his work or not, you have to admit that he has found a winning formula.
Keep giving us hope, Mr. Perry.
